In collaboration with the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology The Design Society is proud to announce the 22nd International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED19)!

Theme: Responsible Design for Our Future

Designing for our future is difficult: what might be new technologies, what are new trends, what kind of products and services will succeed on the market? We don’t presently know the answers to these questions, but we know worldwide growth will have an impact on the future of our children. As designers, we must become more aware of the impact we cause in a complex world we do not fully understand. In the words of Meadows et al. (1972) from the famous book “The Limits to Growth”: “the global system of nature in which we all live – probably cannot support present rates of economic and population growth much beyond the year 2100, if that long, even with advanced technology.”

We invite and challenge you to join this unavoidable discussion during ICED19’s – Responsible Design for our Future. ICED19 will focus on engineering design in collaboration with other disciplines as the backbone of our future – a future that seems to become more complex, more dynamic, more interactive, and more time-critical. We must learn to replace short term thinking by an integrated view on people’s quality of life on a long-term scale.
